RATP Dev London implemented a pilot safety training scheme for drivers in 2018 in order to better protect vulnerable road users

The six-month course was developed as part of a bid for funding from the TfL Bus Safety Innovation Fund. “Our safety team approached the London Cycling Campaign – or LCC – to help us develop a cycling course as part of our application,” explains Matthew Howie, Garage Risk Manager at RATP Dev London.

Interview with Luc Bouard, Mayor of La Roche-sur-Yon and President of the La Roche-sur-Yon urban area

With 95,000 inhabitants, a growing population, especially in the suburbs, and an acute awareness of its economic, social and environmental challenges, the urban area of La Roche-sur-Yon is focusing on its sustainable mobility strategies. By renewing its confidence in RATP Dev for the management and operation of the urban transport network on 1 January 2017, it signed a contract not only for the optimisation of the service on different levels (mobility solutions, regional services, etc.), but also for the transition towards better environmental standards.

Road safety : A unique and global approach that makes a difference

A pedestrian crossing the road, a car jumping a red light, a boar passing by... In terms of transport, from the moment it takes place on a public road open to other users there is no such thing as zero risk. RATP Dev is nonetheless far from leaving the question solely to benevolent fate. While greater rail safety was the first focus of attention, the improvement of road safety is now the subject of many initiatives within the company.

City of Waco

Daytona Beach

Votran is trying to reduce turnovers by implementing the RADAR initiative for attrition reduction.  Providing extra training when needed and ensuring supervisors are available to listen to driver concerns and ideas improves communication and retention. Adjustments to the new labor agreement contract as well as new incentive programs for all union and non-union members have increased morale.  New buses will reduce labor, fuel, and maintenance costs, while increasing operational efficiencies.

Autonomous Vehicles: A Key Pillar of RATP Dev’s Innovation Strategy

Such is the potential of the autonomous vehicle market that investment within the sector reached almost $80 billion between 2014 and 2017* and most major automotive manufacturers, software companies, public transport operators and mobility app developers are attempting to stake out their positions within this increasingly complex ecosystem. Why? Well because disruptive transport technologies offer huge potential benefits, not just in terms of safety, but also to reduce congestion and create smarter, more sustainable cities.

Providing young offenders with a second chance

In the British capital, RATP Dev London is offering young offenders a second chance through an innovative program developed in partnership with the organization Achieving for Children.  “We initially set up a program to support young offenders to carry out their community service by cleaning buses at our Tolworth bus garage, explains Kumbirai Mukombe, Engineering Manager. Some youngsterss expressed an interest in engineering, so we broadened the program to a 2-week shadowing project to teach them the basics of engineering.”
