Successful launch of the two new tram lines T3 and T4 by RATP Dev in Casablanca

Continuing the trust-based partnership between the transport authority Casa Transports and RATP Dev, which began with the launch of the tram lines T1 in 2012 and T2 in 2019 and over a decade on, the two new tram lines T3 and T4 have successfully entered service. Adding to the transport services offered by RATP Dev Casablanca, these two new lines are perfectly integrated into the city’s public transit network. This sustainable transport solution aims to meet the growing needs for urban mobility in Morocco's densest city, which is home to more than four million people. The tram is a mode of public transport that is affordable, safe, reliable, and modern. These two new tram lines will alleviate the traffic congestion and make it easier to get around for Casablanca residents and tourists visiting the city. 

High-performance lines for improved mobility
The T3 and T4 tram lines add to the existing public transit network of the original two tram lines T1 and T2 already up and running. The two new lines cover a combined distance of 25 km with 39 stations and several multimodal interchange points with the T1 and T2 lines, as well as the two Casabusway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, which were inaugurated last March and with a total of almost 5 million journeys since their commissioning.

The ridership on the T3 and T4 tram lines is expected to exceed 20 million journeys in 2025, considerably increasing the use of public transport in Casablanca.   
The service runs from 5.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. Monday to Sunday with an average interval of 11 minutes between trams at the time of launch; an interval that will grow shorter over time.

Modernised tools to assist the expansion of the network 

To put the finishing touches on the transport services offered by RATP Dev Casablanca, an overhaul of the passenger information system was undertaken several months ago. That project has improved the information provided before, during, and after each passenger journey. Studies have been conducted with users of the service to analyse their interpretations after reading passenger information messages, with the goal of making that information easier to understand. The new passenger information system covers all the lines and routes, interchange points, and products in order to better serve the needs of Greater Casablanca.

In the El Hantate district, RATP Dev Casablanca also participated in constructing the largest center of excellence for the operation and maintenance of tram and Bus Rapid Transit lines, which stretches over an area of 6.5 hectares. That centre will host the teams managing the tram and BRT lines, as well as the Casablanca regulation and control operations. It has eight tracks dedicated to maintaining the trams and three lanes dedicated to maintaining the buses. It can host and store a total of 48 64-metre-long trams and 25 21-metre-long buses.

• Line T1, the longest in the network, stretches over a distance of 23.5 km and stops at 37 stations;

• Line T2, covering a distance of 20.5 km, stops at 32 stations;

• The Bw1 high service bus route covers a distance of 12.5 km and stops at 20 stations;

• The Bw2 high service bus route covers a distance of 12 km and stops at 22 stations;

• Line T3, covering a distance of 14 km, stops at 20 stations;

• Line T4 stops at 19 stations over the course of 12.5 km.
