Autolinee Toscane, a subsidiary of RATP Dev in Italy, has achieved significant developments in innovative public transport in Tuscany in its three years of existence, offering the travelers an increasingly accessible and digitalized bus service and a sustainable alternative to the use of private cars.
• 340 million euros of investment
• ~3,000 buses in operation
• 1,200 permanent hires, including 556 employees trained in-house
• 6,000 contactless devices installed for ticket payment on board buses
• 17,000 security cameras installed throughout the fleet.
With over 75 million tickets sold, more than 2 million subscription cards issued and an application downloaded 1.3 million times, Autolinee Toscane continues to play an essential role in mobility in Italy.
For Federico Tonetti, RATP Dev's Senior VP - Italy Business Unit: “After three years of service, we have reached a pivotal moment where local public transport in Tuscany can become the main driver of a region that is accessible without relying solely on private vehicles. Autolinee Toscane is committed to continuous improvement and investment in more sustainable transport modes, starting with electric vehicles. We take an approach in which mobility is designed, organized and managed responsibly, in collaboration with local authorities, placing the citizen-traveler at the heart of every consideration”.
Investing and innovating to serve travelers and the environment
These achievements are the result of 340 million euros of investment (up to 700 million by 2032) in bus fleets, depots, personnel, technology and the development of a digital ecosystem. The company is committed to providing travelers with a smooth, fast and comfortable experience. According to a satisfaction survey carried out in April and May 2024 by the Institute for Transport and Economic Research (Istituto di Ricerca sui Trasporti e l’Economia) on some 15,000 travelers, 88.24% of them consider themselves satisfied or very satisfied with the service offered by Autolinee Toscane.
In addition, the company is aiming for “zero emissions” thanks to initiatives such as the dematerialization of subscriptions and the “tip tap” contactless payment system, which has saved over 6 million sheets of paper and eliminated over 2 million plastic cards in three years.
