SETRAM – the joint venture established by Entreprise du Métro d’Alger (EMA), TRANSTEV and RATP Group subsidiary RATP Dev – opened the new section of the Constantine tramway on Monday to connect the old and new towns of Ali Mendjeli.

The 7-km extension with five new stops enhances the public transport offering in Constantine. The city’s tramway network now features 15 stops from Ben Abdelmalek Ramdane to Chahid Kadri Brahim across 15 km and transports nearly 490,000 passengers per year.

The entire line is crossed in 37 minutes with frequency of 4½ minutes during weekdays and 5 minutes on weekends. The new offering ensures a real travel time saving of 15 to 20 minutes across the service. A further 24 trams will supplement the 27 already in operation.

This achievement will contribute to the economic and sustainable development of the city of Constantine with over 151 jobs created over time (drivers, inspectors, sales operatives and commercial agents) and ensure a transfer of RATP Group know-how to all recruited staff through training sessions organised and issued by SETRAM.
A second extension 3.83 km in length is expected to ensure access for the entire town of Ali Mendjeli.
