On 4 November, the yachtsman Florian Guéguen will set off across the Atlantic thanks to funding from RATP Dev. The public transport operator, present in Lorient and Vannes, supports the region’s major events.

RATP Dev was receptive to the call from Cancale-native Florian Guéguen on 24 September and is providing financial support, allowing him to put together the funding necessary to take part in the 11th Route du Rhum Destination Guadeloupe race, in the Class40 category.

“Following an appeal for donations to complete our budget, RATP Dev put their hand up, enabling us to secure our departure. The support of our partners is valuable for non-profit associations and for all the boats taking part in the race, and I would like to thank them.”

When this single-handed race starts the 26-year-old skipper will be taking to the high seas, from Saint-Malo to Guadeloupe. RATP Dev is also an official partner to the France Parkinson sailing project. Guéguen has chosen to support those with Parkinson’s disease and is working to change people’s perceptions of the illness by bearing the name FRANCE PARKINSON on his 12.25-metre monohull. He will be facing 52 other competitors in his category over nearly 15 days of intense racing.
After a cultural partnership this summer with the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, RATP Dev is proud to support this young yachtsman, who will be returning to ocean racing after several years sailing tall ships. Florian Guéguen will also speak to young people about his race and his projects in the regions in which RATP Dev operates, until April 2019.
