Contributing to the sustainable development of a historic site
In the heart of the Saudi desert, AlUla is the epicenter of a region with a UNESCO-listed archaeological heritage, attracting a growing number of tourists. After the agreement signed between France and Saudi Arabia in 2018, the French Agency for the Development of AlUla (AFALULA) was created to mobilize French experts to co-construct an archaeological, cultural and tourist complex, resembling an open-air living museum, in line with the objectives of the Saudi government.
RATP Dev has been supporting the development of sustainable and innovative public transport in AlUla since 2022 and executing th first phase of the Mobility 360 Plan, in close collaboration with the Royal Commission for AlUla.
Carbon-free mobility at the heart of projects
AlUla aspires to become, thanks to the most advanced knowledge and techniques, a reference project in sustainable development, focused on the absolute preservation of the environment, territories and the living environment of the local population. The challenges for RATP Dev are therefore numerous. After the study phase, RATP has executed the first phase of the 360 Mobility Plan and has operated autonomous and eletric shuttles in AlUla.
With the 360 Mobility plan, the Royal Commission of AlUla honors us with its trust. We are fully committed to this long-term partnership. The autonomous shuttle service in the historic center of AlUla is already contributing to local life by creating jobs, and young Saudis have been trained to become safety operators of these driverless vehicles.
