Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport: a Game-Changer

The direct, high-quality rail connection linking Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy-Bird Walton), the new city of Bradfield and Greater Sydney represents a step change in how Western Sydney will grow, connect and prosper.

Delivered by the Parklife Metro consortium and operated by RATP Dev, the line is part of the Sydney Metro program - the largest public transport investment in Australia’s history. By 2032, the network will operate three lines, 46 stations and more than 113 kilometres of rail, supporting long-term productivity, housing, employment, and sustainable urban development.

IA Sydney

A 100% automated metro

The 23-kilometre, six-station Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport line will be a fully automated metro designed to set a new benchmark for airport connectivity in Australia.

Travel times of around 15 minutes between the airport and St Marys Station will enable fast connections to regional rail services and the broader metropolitan network. Drawing on more than three decades of global experience in automated metro operations, RATP Dev will deliver a service focused on reliability, safety and passenger comfort.

The 12-train fleet will feature wide circulation areas, modular spaces for people with reduced mobility (PRM), dedicated bicycle spaces, and real-time passenger information connected to airport flight movements — supporting a seamless end-to-end passenger journey.
