RATP Dev and the Angers-Loire Metropolitan Authority Redesign the Transportation Network

On July 7, the Angers-Loire Metropolitan Authority inaugurated two new streetcar lines and unveiled its new and improved public transit offer. Developed with RATP Dev Angers, operator of the Irigo public transit network, this redesigned service has been up and running since July 8.
Since 2019, RATP Dev Angers has been responsible for operating the Irigo network, on behalf of the Angers-Loire Metropolitan Authority. Today, Irigo is undergoing a transformation with the introduction of two new streetcar lines and extended bus routes, resulting in a 20% increase in public transit coverage. These enhancements strengthen the network and make mobility more accessible for local residents.
Hiba Farès, Chair of the Executive Board of RATP Dev, stated that: "Public transit has the power to shape a region and the daily lives of the people who live there, while also contributing to the fight against climate change. The expansion of this extension of the Angers-Loire Metropolitan network, which we are honored to support, reflects a modern and ambitious vision for the metropolitan area and its residents."
Jean Marc Verchère, Mayor of Angers and Chairman of Angers Loire Métropole, comments: "The consolidation of our tramway network, with 10 km of new tracks and 285 million euros invested, is a powerful lever for the ecological transition and for creating links between the inhabitants of our region. Every day, 72,000 people will now be able to travel in complete safety and tranquility thanks to this fluid, low-carbon mode of transport. This is a great source of pride for our city and for Angers Loire Métropole".
The redesigned offer includes two new streetcar lines, Line B and Line C, complementing the existing Line A. With a total of 37 stations and an additional 19 kilometers of streetcar lines, the lines connect the Belle-Beille, Monplaisir, and la Roseraie districts. The bus network has also been improved, featuring "express" routes, that will offer passengers extended and enhanced timetables on its main bus routes within the metropolitan area, as well as simplified routes. Furthermore, the on-demand transportation service now facilitates journeys between stops within the same area and provides connections to select healthcare centers. In addition, the Klaxit carpooling scheme, in operation since 2022, will receive a boost with the establishment of park-and-ride facilities linked to streetcar stations. The city and its surroundings have also seen the implementation of numerous cycling routes.
