In Quebec, RATP Dev Canada is taking part, as an upstream operator, in designing TramCité, the city's future tram line and the cornerstone of the Vision for Active Mobility plan adopted by local authorities.

A structuring project to meet Québec's mobility challenges

To support the city's economic growth and anticipate its strong demographic expansion, Québec City launched the TramCité project in 2024 to offer an alternative to car travel and prevent the uncontrolled increase in road traffic.

The new network, presented as the future backbone of mobility, will connect the Le Gendre-Charlesburg axis by 2033. Its U-shaped route will cover 19 kilometers of rail to connect Québec and its central hubs in the east, west and north. It will offer a capacity of 3,500 passengers per hour and a frequency of 4-5 minutes.

Providing globally recognized expertise

Selected as the upstream operator, RATP Dev's subsidiary brings its expertise in network design and anticipating technical challenges to the project. A partner of the contracting authority CDPQ Infra and the future operator Réseau de Transport de la Capitale (RTC), RATP Dev began applying a methodology proven on an international scale, while adapting it to Québec's climate, environmental and regional constraints.

Studies focused on the entire line's feasibility, especially for the Canadian city's five multimodal hubs, which are strategic network axes for connections with other mobility solutions such as buses. The new TramCité line will feature fully electric rolling stock, composed of low-floor tram cars, , 29 stations including two underground, as well as a maintenance and operation center and a central command post.
