Strengthening intermodal mobility in Caen with RATP Dev’s expertise

In Caen, RATP Dev operates two mobility services: urban transportation through management of the Twisto network for Caen la Mer (including tram, bus, active mobility options, and park-and-ride facilities), and, starting July 11, 2027, regional rail services (currently TER Nomad) across the Greater Caen rail hub, on behalf of the Normandy Region.

Across both services, residents benefit from seamless, sustainable, and connected mobility solutions designed for everyday travel as well as regional trips. This complementary approach strengthens the area’s appeal and addresses the challenges of modern mobility - accessible, efficient, and environmentally responsible.

RATP Dev is fully committed to developing intermodal mobility in Caen, where it operates two complementary networks.

Operated under contract with the Urban Community of Caen la Mer, the Twisto network includes three tram lines covering 23.2 km (with an additional 1.5 lines totaling 10.4 km scheduled for July 2029), 72 bus routes, a self-service electric bike program, long-term bike rentals, and secure bike parking facilities. The network also offers on-demand transportation services, car-sharing options, and park-and-ride lots.

With more than 95,000 passenger trips per day and a 93% customer satisfaction rate, Twisto represents a high-performing urban mobility system.

RATP Dev has been appointed by the Région Normandie as the operator of the Étoile de Caen rail lines beginning in 2027. This upcoming management of part of the TER Nomad network will provide efficient connections between suburban and rural areas and the greater Caen metropolitan area, further strengthening regional intermodality.

Thanks to this dual expertise, RATP Dev is positioning Caen as a model of integrated mobility serving users and the region.

The Twisto network brings together all mobility solutions across Caen la Mer to deliver seamless, accessible, and sustainable transportation. It is built around a backbone tram system, a comprehensive bus and on-demand transit network that serves the metropolitan area in detail, and a full range of cycling options including self-service bikes, long-term rentals, and secure bike shelters. Park-and-ride facilities and a car-sharing service further expand this range of mobility solutions. Together, these modes work in synergy to make everyday travel easier and to strengthen intermodal connections across the region.
