Innovating and acting to improve the passenger experience and quality of life in Bourges

In Bourges, the STUB (Société des Transports Urbains de Bourges) is pursuing a strategy to adapt and revitalize the AggloBus network based on 3 priorities: decreasing travel time, improving the passenger experience and reducing the carbon impact.

A transportation network redesigned for more sustainable mobility

Since 2011, STU Bourges, a subsidiary of RATP Dev, is a partner of AggloBus, the inter-municipal transport union, to reinvent the public transportation network. Relying on the Group’s innovations and its in-depth knowledge of local challenges, STU Bourges designs and implements modern and reimagined mobility solutions: more eco-friendly, connected and inclusive. To reduce the carbon footprint and improve air quality, the company has begun greening its fleet of 65 buses.

The added bonus? Across the AggloBus region, transport provided by STUB is free of charge (bus, on-demand transport, classic bike rental and more).

The goal: streamline the network while improving everyday life for residents.

An optimized passenger experience thanks to a more tailored offer

Passenger experience quality is also a central aspect of STUB’s plans. The three “high frequency” lines provide a bus every 6 minutes in the downtown area, which delivers substantial time savings for users. In the same way, the company thoroughly revamped its service to business hubs, hospitals and higher education institutions in order to simplify access. A shuttle route to downtown, night service from the SNCF rail station and strategic stops round out a transport offer that is constantly changing to adapt to the way our passengers live.

Updated services to support the network’s expansion

Qualitative development has led to the introduction of free transport, while maintaining a service offer that is more efficient (+26% offer growth), faster and greener: two downtown shuttle routes, bike rentals (including 230 electric, longtail, cargo and other bikes) with the Cycloplus service for intermodal travel, the development of carpooling, the introduction of additional shuttles during the Printemps de Bourges festival which attracts 80,000 visitors and more. Everything has been redesigned to make services more accessible in response to the increase in ridership since the AggloBus union made transportation free of charge.

Supporting daily life in the Bourges region

Since 2011, STU Bourges has actively supported daily life in the Bourges region through several initiatives: The transport company helped to introduce free transportation, as requested by the AggloBus union, by redesigning the service and supporting the increase in ridership.

Every year, a dedicated service is set up to welcome the 80,000 visitors to the Printemps de Bourges festival, of which we are a partner. We will also be there to support Bourges in 2028, when it will become a European Capital of Culture.

The AggloBus network is designed to have a positive impact on the region. It notably enables smooth transportation for all residents. AggloBus and STUB are innovating to limit their impact, with a focus on active mobility and the energy transition. Through the network, we support the region’s economic and cultural life on a daily basis, as well as during major events, and we are proud of these efforts.
