Angers, France:
Connecting 310,000 residents with tailored and decarbonized mobility

In Angers, the expansion of bus and tram networks and the introduction of new services, such as on-demand transport, have proved massively popular with residents. The result: a 26% increase in ridership in just three years.

Six years of innovation to serve Angers travelers
Since 2019, RATP Dev has been working with Angers Loire Métropole, through its subsidiary RD Angers, to redefine its mobility solutions and create a range of services that meet the changing needs of users and the imperatives of decarbonization.
In six years, this collaboration, focused on expanding the existing network (3 tram lines, 31 bus lines) and innovation (transport on demand), has won over a growing number of Angers residents. In a geographical area with a population of 310,000, ridership has increased by 26% since 2022, the number of pass holders has risen by 18% and the satisfaction rate has reached 81%

Strengthening services and accelerating the environmental transition
For RD Angers, these excellent results are an encouragement to continue with a transformation strategy that is perfectly in line with the work habits of the region. For example, the extension of service hours, with the first departures at 4:00 AM, meets the needs of many employee shift patterns. Similarly, the creation of new express lines combined with the development of on-demand transport (Irigo Flex is expected to double its activity by 2031) will serve an additional 8,000 residents in densifying suburban areas. Finally, the expansion of multimodal services (bikes, buses, carpooling, etc.) is helping to establish sustainable mobility.
On the environmental front, fleet transformation is picking up pace within the network, which is already ISO 14001 certified. Two-thirds of vehicles will run on BioNGV by 2029 as part of the fleet renewal program, while depots will reduce their electricity consumption by at least 10%. In 2025, the public service delegation granted to RD Angers was renewed until 2031.
